Now that we're into a new season, we're also into a new campaign of content at Basketball Prospectus with lots of changes on the horizon. More on that later, but for now we introduce a new daily feature. "PBP Roundup" is precisely what it sounds like. It's a quick and dirty summary of what's going on in the league. The intent is to keep you up to date if you weren't able to veg out with League Pass last night, to share some of our favorite statistics and to point your way to the best work on the NBA each day on the Web. If you have any thoughts, suggestions for links or questions on the league, drop me a line using the contact link below. If I get some good questions, I'll introduce a reader e-mail section to this daily touchstone. Hope you enjoy.
TODAY AT BASKETBALL PROSPECTUS
1. An insightful review of Pro Basketball Prospectus 2010-11 from our friends at The Works.
2. Kevin reflects on Portland's season-opening win over the Suns in his latest "Five Thoughts".
CELTICS 88, HEAT 80
The Celtics stifled an out-of-sync Miami offense in the first half, then held off a LeBron James-led charge in the second. James had to take over, because Dwyane Wade looked very much like a player that didn't have a preseason.

TRAIL BLAZERS 106, SUNS 92
Nicholas Batum scored 11 points in the fourth, leading Portland's 31-11 final period blitz against Phoenix, which went just 4-of-17 in the quarter. The Suns tried to hide Nash defensively on Batum early and the Blazers pounced on that. Batum's offensive game is getting better, and the Suns' Turkoglu-for-Stoudemire lineup really hurts Phoenix on the glass. Batum's three-point shot is looking nice.

LAKERS 112, ROCKETS 110
Steve Blake hit the go-ahead three-pointer with :18.8 remaining in his debut for the Lakers. Aaron Brooks had a reverse lay-up attempt blocked at the buzzer that could have sent the game into overtime for the Rockets. Brooks and Martin proved to be very difficult to guard for Houston. Brooks is more of the slasher, Martin the catch-and-shooter, but they can both fill those two roles capably. You have to make them work defensively, but Kobe was checked by Battier.

PLY is an estimate of how many possessions on which the player was on the court. POSS is an estimate of possessions a player used. Plus-Minus (+/-) data is from official box scores from NBA.com. Game Rating (GR) reflects a player's Points Created total, or the portion of his team's offense for which he gets credit based on his box score line. This number is then adjusted for estimated defensive performance based on box score counterpart productivity. GR is pace-adjusted so you can compare players from game to game.
NEWS & MOVES
Minutiae from press releases around the league
KINGS: The Kings exercised contract options on second-year point guard Tyreke Evans as well as third-year forwards Jason Thompson and Donte Greene, plus second-year forward Omri Casspi.
No surprises here. The Kings have a lot of young talent, which is cheap, and the team's cap situation is excellent as we wade into the murky waters of collective bargaining.
