All coaches claim that talent isn't everything. But can we really assign a value to things like "motor" and "toughness"? Maybe. Should we try? Absolutely.
Why do coaches on the recruiting trail insist on viewing recruits through the lens of "positions" handed down from decades ago? Simply numbering the positions 1 through 5 doesn't come close to capturing what really happens on the court.
Is "win probability" the next step in team assessment? Could be! For one thing it finesses rather nicely any worries about rewarding teams statistically for merely running up the score. Then again even a shiny new bauble like win probability has its quirks.
